The Rescue of Ravenwood
What a joy
to read.
A book that doesn’t come loaded down with social media controversy, agendas or celebrity footprints. This is just a great story about three children fighting to rescue their home and a giant ash tree they have a house in. Once it gets going, the narrative belts along and I was turning the pages as fast as I could.
But what really makes it special is the attention to the children’s emotions. They’re good, but they aren’t saints. There are petty rivalries and jealousies and misunderstandings. At times, (as an adult reader) you want to pick them up and shake them. But as far as I’m concerned, that just means they’re real. As are the adults who, if not drawn in such fine detail, also come across as genuine characters with genuine problems/faults. (I love the observation about one man needing his wife because ‘she makes him strong’.)
I’m going to end by repeating myself: it’s a great story.
